Employment Law
Business success depends on good people
A good workforce is crucial for any business to be successful, which means attracting, recruiting and retaining the right people. Workers are likely to be the biggest and most expensive asset a business has, which is why it is important to always get it right.
Because employment law impacts on all businesses, whether you are a sole trader or multi-national conglomerate, it is imperative that employers understand the legal and commercial consequences of both their decisions and actions. Employees also need to understand their rights and responsibilities, as well as what is expected of them.
Our employment law and human resource management products can provide clients with proactive and reactive solutions to potential and actual problems. Our aim is to reduce the likelihood of legal action by encouraging and assisting organisations to develop, implement, review and revise their internal policies and procedures.
We can:
- draft your policies and procedures
- draft your employment contracts and handbooks
- provide advice and assistance on employment law and related matters
- advise on and mediate workplace disputes
- offer proactive and reactive solutions to potential and actual workplace problems
- train your staff on a wide range of employment law issues
- provide strategies for reducing the risk of tribunal claims
Tribunal complaints
Establishing firm foundations to protect businesses and workers is essential in a climate where employment tribunal complaints are on the increase.
During the year ending March 2007 there were over 132,000 tribunal claims in the UK. An increase of 15% on the previous year.
Although the nature of the claims varied, just over 44,000 involved unfair dismissals, 18.5% concerned unathorised deductions and more than 27,000 related to breach of contract. The average award for unfair dismissal was approximately £8,500. There were over 12,000 complaints of discrimination in the workplace with an average compensation of £20,000. The awards in such cases are UNLIMITED.
Given these statistics, we believe it essential that employers have policies and procedures that are regularly reviewed and up-dated.
