In the year ending March 2006, there were over 115,000 complaints made to employment tribunals in the UK.Although the nature of claims varied, almost 40% involved unfair dismissals and issues concerning employees working time. The average award for unfair dismissal was approximately £8,500. The compensation awards for discrimination claims are unlimited. There were over 12,000 cases of discrimination with an average compensation of £20,000.
