Very few establishments can prevent disputes occurring within the workplace. At Landell Fraser we believe rigorous policies, procedures and systems can reduce the likelihood of disagreements arising and may help to improve working relationships when they do.

Tribunal complaints

Establishing firm foundations to protect organisations and workers are essential in a climate where employment tribunal complaints are on the increase. In the year ending March 2006, there were over 115,000 complaints made to employment tribunals in the UK.

Although the nature of claims varied, almost 40% involved unfair dismissals and issues concerning employees working time. The average award for unfair dismissal was approximately £8,500. The compensation awards for discrimination claims are unlimited. There were over 12,000 cases of discrimination with an average compensation of £20,000.

Given these statistics, we believe it is essential that employers implement policies and procedures that are regularly reviewed and revised.
